It grows quickly--up to a foot a day! It needs little water, and is naturally pest-resistant. It can be harvested in just a few years, and is completely renewable and sustainable, with its root system continually sprouting new shoots so there's no need for replanting, making it very environmentally friendly. Bamboo is highly anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, hypo-allergenic, and anti-static, even after several washings. It is very breathable, much like silk or cashmere, but it is much more affordable and versatile. Bamboo can be washed and dried by machine, although I prefer hand washing these handwoven scarves and drying them flat. Bamboo is wrinkle-resistant, but you can use a gentle iron if needed. |
